Considers the social and economic contexts for and the patterns of creation, growth, and change in industrial organization from the first industrial revolution to the present day. Discusses how and why different societies have achieved competitive advantages in domestic markets and global trade at different times. Examines the effects of culture, technology, finance, and government on the economies of England, Germany, Japan, the United States, and the East Asian tigers, as well as newly developing and lagging economies around the world.
